Sidewalk Pads Damaged During 5G Cell Tower Installation Repaired

Following installation of the 5G small cell tower in the 300 block of Kinsmoor Avenue last autumn, several sidewalk pads were destroyed during the process of running the underground conduit to the tower. At the time, Verizon’s sub-contractor assured residents the pads would be replaced in ‘short order.’ However, by the start of this summer, the pads remained missing, constituted a tripping hazard, and became the garbage receptacle of choice for wind-blown trash.
Upon receiving notice that at least one neighbor sprained their ankle following their return walk home from work, your neighborhood association reached out to the city and inquired as to when Verizon’s contractors might return to replace said missing sidewalk pads. Almost immediately thereafter, Brian Shimkus and James Thomas the III from the Streets & Right-of-Way departments respectively, took resident’s concerns seriously and fast tracked the order-of-repair, with the missing pads replaced on the twenty-second of June.
