Neighborhood Boundaries

Boundaries of the Fairfield Neighborhood Association are Pontiac Street to the north, Calhoun Street to the east, Violet Court & Darrow Street to the south, and Fairfield Avenue to the west.

A Rich & Storied Past

The Fairfield Neighborhood is the quintessential American neighborhood featuring mature tree-lined streets and dotted throughout with unique architectural styled homes, cottages, and American Foursquares. Born at the turn of Twentieth Century from tough as nails Working Class laborers & craftsman who produced world-renowned organs, pianos, and radio cabinets at the Packard Organ Factory [now Packard Park]. The neighborhood continued to grow and quickly became an epicenter to the burgeoning Middle Class. Some long-time residents describe the Fairfield Neighborhood as the “supporting cast & crew” for the surrounding areas. Whereas many of the doctors, surgeons, and nurses who worked at the former Lutheran Hospital [now Lutheran Park] lived in South Wayne, the Fairfield Neighborhood was home to, teachers, tradesmen, mechanics, plumbers, and general laborers.

A Bright & Bountiful Future

Fairfield Neighborhood like the City of Fort Wayne is unique in that the People refused to just allow the moniker of being a ‘Rust-Belt City’ hang like an albatross around the neck. Instead just as residents rallied following the ‘Great’ Flood of 1982 and earned the moniker of “The City That Saved Itself” the neighborhoods have worked tirelessly to reinvent themselves; thereby retaining all the Independent Spirit & Dignity of a People committed to improving the quality of life both for their own family as well as the Posterity.

Today, the Fairfield Neighborhood is a diverse mix of small business owners, tradesmen, artists, musicians, and young families endeavoring to carve out & secure their own piece of the American Dream. The prospects for the Future of the Fairfield Neighborhood are bright, so please consider joining us and help contribute to making this the best place to live, work, and play in the city.
